Nicola Sumner worked in academic research for the University of Manchester before pursuing a career in education. She has held several teaching and leadership roles during her career. Nicola has an energy, passion and ambition to ensure that The Mortimer Federation of St. John’s and St. Mary’s can be the best it can be. Nicola has been involved in school to school support, successfully improving outcomes for children. Nicola has previously taken on the additional responsibility of being a School
Improvement Advisor for primary schools in West Berkshire. Nicola has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Post Graduate Degree in Education.

Jeni Pearson is an experienced teacher and school leader and has taught in number of different school settings, including rural and village schools, and she also taught in Enfield, London, for a number of years. Amy Eyre has always had passion for working with children and has volunteered and worked with various ages from Foundation to Year 6 over the last few years. Amy Eyre has always had passion for working with children and has volunteered and worked with various ages from Foundation to Year 6 over the last few years. She has a Bachelor of Science (with Hons) degree in Psychology with Sociology from the University of Leicester and completed her Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) at the University of Reading. Tina Brown has been employed at St. Mary’s since September 2014, prior to this she worked in a variety of settings in Surrey, Hampshire and West Berkshire. She qualified with a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Winchester in 1989 with a specialism in English. During her time as a teacher she has worked with the full primary range and has been responsible for a range of curriculum areas. She is currently responsible for science and the School Council, and supports the management of the Library.

Bethany Haigh has a BA Hons degree from Arts University, Bournemouth. She received her Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Winchester. She has been teaching for four years and has taught all year groups within KS2. She has a passion for art and all things creative, along with PE as she wants to promote a healthy, active lifestyle to all those who she teaches.

Rachel Sims has an Education Honours Degree specialising in English from Plymouth University. Over the past eight years she has taught across Key Stages 1 and 2. Rachel joined Mortimer St Mary’s in 2017 and is currently teaching year 6 and is a member of the senior leadership team. Rachel is passionate about teaching and learning and is always very eager to inspire children’s love of learning through a creative and hands on approach.
Jenny Dearing has been an active member of Mortimer St Mary's for 8 years, enjoying a variety of roles within the school. With a background in theatre, drama and music she is passionate about instilling this love of the arts into the children she teaches.

Sarah began her teaching career almost 30 years ago as a Secondary Modern Languages teacher, teaching French, German and Spanish.  She graduated from Manchester University with a BA in Modern Languages and Literature and then a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. Sarah has been at Mortimer St. Mary’s since 2014 primarily teaching Spanish, but also teaching across the curriculum as a PPA cover teacher.

Mrs Crawford has worked at Mortimer St. Mary's for over 12 years, gaining experience across all year groups, working with children 1:1 and running intervention groups. She has had previous experience working with children in a hospital and other childcare settings.

Andrea Payne is a Teaching Assistant who joined St. Mary's in 2004. Prior to spending a few years at home with her children, she was a Research Biologist for 17 years in the fields of Water Research and Agricultural Entomology. Mrs Harper qualified as a N.N.E.B Nursery Nurse in 1989. She began her career working in Early Years Education for a Local Authority nursery school in Woodley, Berkshire. Mrs Harper then went on to working in a school for children with special educational needs. After a career break while raising her three children, she returned to work in a private nursery before joining Mortimer St. Mary’s in September 2018.

Tracey Hodson worked in market research after graduating from Leicester University, however she moved into education after having children in 2000. She built her skills as a TA and HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) before specializing as an ELSA in 2011. She joined Mortimer St. Mary’s in 2014 & since then has developed her skills in many areas to support children with their emotional needs from anxiety to friendship skills; as well as providing strategies to cope during difficult times. She reflects the growth mindset in the school to support children as they learn & develop. Tracey loves to play tennis in her spare time, & coaches at a local club too.
Julie Joannides has been employed at Mortimer St Mary’s Junior School since September 2011, prior to this Julie was a finance officer in Reading Borough Council working for the schools team on the formula for delegated school budgets. Nathan Baxter has been employed at Mortimer St Mary’s Junior School since November 2011.  Nathan came to the school with a wealth of experience of IT in schools as previously his full time role was supporting schools in their development of IT.
